Ilkley Acoustic Pop Ensemble
I'm delighted to announce the brand new Ilkley Acoustic Pop Ensemble, bringing together music lovers from across our vibrant local community. We are a friendly and supportive community music ensemble aimed at Beginner and Intermediate players of acoustic instruments of all kinds - guitar, ukulele, mandolin, fiddle, percussion, and more. Singing is very much welcome but not compulsory!
The Philosophy
Whether you've been playing your instrument for a few months or a few years, you'll find a welcoming home with us. We believe that making music together should be both enjoyable and encouraging, creating an environment where everyone can grow at their own pace. Music is carefully chosen for musicians just beginning their band journey or improving intermediate players, ensuring that everyone can participate meaningfully from day one.
What to Expect
Each session combines structured learning with the pure joy of playing together. We focus on popular songs arranged specifically for our ensemble, making them accessible while maintaining their musical essence. Our repertoire spans decades of beloved music, from folk and country classics to contemporary pop hits.
Who Can Join?
We welcome players of all acoustic instruments, including but not limited to:
- Guitars (steel-string or classical)
- Ukuleles
- Mandolins
- Fiddles/Violins
- Percussion (cajons, hand drums, tambourines)
- Bass guitars
- Harmonicas
Complete beginners should have basic familiarity with their instrument, such as knowing fundamental chords or notes. However, you don't need to read music - we provide chord sheets and simple notation and TAB that anyone can follow.
